Getting Started

Installation

Nymara is distributed as a single self-contained executable for Windows 10/11. No installation wizard is required.

  1. Download NYMARA.exe from the Download page.
  2. Place it anywhere you like (Documents, Desktop, or a tools folder).
  3. Double-click to run. Windows SmartScreen may warn you; click "More info" then "Run anyway."

For auto-updates, use the Velopack installer version. It adds a Start Menu shortcut and checks for updates on launch.

First Run

On first launch, Nymara will:

  1. Check for a previous Python-version settings file and auto-migrate it.
  2. Show the onboarding wizard to configure your Library Root.
  3. Start a 14-day Pro trial (90 days if you previously had adult features enabled).

Library Root

The Library Root is the top-level folder containing your organized media. It should look like this:

H:\Media
|-- Movies
|-- TV Shows
|-- Music
|-- Books
`-- Adult

Nymara will create subfolders inside the Library Root during organization. Do not set your Downloads folder as the Library Root.

Source Folder

The Source Folder is where your messy, unorganized files live. Common examples:

Nymara scans the Source Folder, matches files to TMDB, and previews where they should go in the Library Root.

TMDB Setup (Optional but Recommended)

To fetch posters, backdrops, and metadata, you need a free TMDB API key:

  1. Create an account at themoviedb.org.
  2. Go to Settings → API and request an API key.
  3. Copy the API Key (not the read access token).
  4. Paste it into Nymara Settings → TMDB tab.

First Scan

  1. Open the Organize tab.
  2. Set your Source Folder and Library Root.
  3. Choose an operation mode: Move, Copy, or Hardlink.
  4. Click Scan & Preview Changes.
  5. Review the preview table. Each row shows what will happen to one file.

Use filters to narrow the view by action (Move, Rename, Quarantine), media type, or search text.

Execute Plan

When you're satisfied with the preview:

  1. Enable Dry Run if you want to simulate first (recommended for beginners).
  2. Click Execute Plan.
  3. Nymara will process each item and show progress in real time.
  4. A journal is automatically written to .journals/ for recovery if needed.

If anything goes wrong, use the Recovery tab to undo operations from the journal timeline.
